sleeve gastronomy : how i preper my self ?
Obesity requires a multidisciplinary approach with the participation of several practitioners, including physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, physical therapists, etc. Their primary role will be to inform you, examine you and prescribe various examinations (blood tests, oesogastroduodenal endoscopy, X-rays, oral and dental evaluation, cardiac evaluation, pregnancy test, etc.).
The goal is to draw up a complete obesity assessment, which has four components:
- The health check-up describing the patient’s health status, the conditions from which he/she already suffers (hypertension, nutritional deficiency, cardiac, respiratory or other disorders).
- The psychological assessment to evaluate the need for psychotherapeutic support.
- Lifestyle: to see if the patient is physically active or not, his eating habits, etc.
- The last section concerns women of childbearing age. It deals with any question related to pregnancy and contraception.
Following this assessment, the file is discussed in a multidisciplinary consultation meeting (RCP) to determine the patient’s eligibility for sleeve gastrectomy.
